Lily's Piglets

Lily is currently raising her 10 piglets that she delivered on November 18, 2010. Kylie, Drew, Kim and Dean all watched her have her piglets. Lily was very calm during her delivering of the piglets. The piglets were very curious outside of the pen until it snowed. Now that we have about 20 inches of snow covering the ground the piglets seem to want to stay in their pen where it is warm. They are happy to see us everyday, they like to untie our boot laces and tug at our pants.

We moved 315 White Broilers out of the brooder and into fresh grass today. It was tiring but I'm really glad that there in fresh grass. Now they are going to have so much FUN because they get to eat loads of Grass and Bugs.

Lily and her mini piggys!!!

Hello Readers,

Lily had lil' babies! By the way, Lily is our sow. The piglets are soooooo CUTE!!! She had 18 piglets, but only 10 made it. One time I went in their pen and I sat down just to watch them and the piggy's jumped all over me and were nibbling me. Even though I got REALLY dirty, I thought it was REALLY FUN!!!

We are welcoming the newest addition to our farm. Lily is our new sow and is due to farrow in mid April. She will farrow without a farrowing crate and has done this successfully in the past. Lily is gentle and loves to have her ears and belly rubbed. Her favorite treat is egg bagels.

This is our first sow. Up to now we have been purchasing feeder pigs from local farmers that we have raised for our pork.

We are very happy to have Lily as she allows us to take the next steps toward sustainability, self sufficiency and animal welfare. We will be especially excited to see her farrow without being confined to a crate.

Pastured Pork Available Soon - Reserve Yours Now

Over the next several weeks we will be taking our current batch of pastured pigs to our processors. This batch was raised on goat cheese whey, pasture, fallen apples, field corn (hogged down in the field) and our locally mixed feed. The picture here shows some of these pigs on pasture in warmer weather this past fall.

The cost is base on the pig's hanging weight. We are estimating that the hanging weight for these pigs will be between 190 and 230 lbs.
